Drag the bar to compare. Both sides are the same shot — the right was graded entirely in StoryVis, in your browser, with no upload and no plugin.

What's shipping

The editing core, already working.

StoryVis is built in the open, feature by feature. The precision tools below run today in the early-access editor — entirely in your browser, nothing uploaded.

  1. Curves and channels.

Per-channel RGB curves with bezier handles, plus channel-level control. Shape contrast and color with precision.

  2. Non-destructive adjustments.

Exposure, contrast, brightness, saturation, temperature, tint, hue, and blur — live sliders, with the original always preserved.

  3. Layers, history, and autosave.

A non-destructive layer stack with full undo and redo. Your document autosaves to your browser as you work — no account, no cloud.

  4. Selections.

Isolate regions with selection tools and live overlays, then apply any adjustment to just that area. Every edit stays reversible.

Looks & color

Grade, filter, and finish — at native speed.

Built on photon-rs compiled to WebAssembly, the creative tools apply instantly on your machine. Nothing uploads, nothing waits on a server.

Crop and straighten.

Reframe with a live crop overlay and straighten a tilted horizon. Aspect ratios snap; the original pixels are never thrown away.

Filters and effects.

Eighteen-plus one-click film looks — Lofi, Oceanic, Dramatic, Golden, Obsidian — plus effects like sepia, mono, invert, solarize, emboss, and edge detect.

Color grading.

Color balance, a color wheel, temperature and tint, and channel mixing — push a mood without touching the rest of the frame.

Scopes and export.

Read a live histogram and scopes while you work, then export to PNG or JPEG at full resolution, straight from the browser.

Built on Rust + WebAssembly

Fast where it matters.

StoryVis compiles from Rust to WebAssembly — the same binary format browsers use for high-performance graphics — and runs its photon-rs image pipeline on your machine. Edits apply at native speed. No server round-trips, no upload waits.

Questions

Everything else.

Is this ready to use?
Partially. Adjustments, curves, channels, crop, selections, filters, effects, color grading, and export all work today in the early-access editor. More tooling lands continuously. Open it and try — it's free, no account.
When does it fully launch?
No fixed date. The project is being built in the open and shipped feature-by-feature. Watch the GitHub repo for updates.
Is it free?
Yes. No account, no trial, no watermark on exports. The editor runs entirely in your browser. No paid tier is planned for the core editor.
Do my photos get uploaded to a server?
No. StoryVis decodes and edits everything in your browser using WebAssembly. Your images never leave your device, and your document autosaves locally.
What is it built with?
Rust, compiled to WebAssembly, with a Leptos UI and the photon-rs image pipeline. That's the same binary format browsers use for high-performance graphics, so edits apply at native speed on your machine — no server, no API key, no rate limit.
What file formats can I open?
Open: JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Export: PNG or JPEG at full quality. More formats are on the roadmap.
Will it work on my computer?
Any modern browser — Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge — on macOS, Windows, Linux, and most Chromebooks. If it runs WebAssembly, it runs StoryVis.
Where do I report a bug or request a feature?
GitHub. The repo is open and issues are read by a human.
